Heather Bear Interview

Interview with personal trainer, fitness competitor, and mom Heather Bear:

heather-bear.jpg1. What is your background? How did you become interested in fitness?

I am a registered veterinary technician, nail technician, Jenny Hendershott’s personal assistant, mom, wife and I just got certified as an ISSA Personal Trainer. I contacted Jenny Hendershott to lose weight for my 2003 wedding. She put me on a program and I looked “awesome” walking down the isle. I then wanted to set my goals higher and start competing in figure. I did one show and was addicted. :-)

2. Can you please describe a “typical” day for you?

I never have the same day twice. I work on Tuesdays and Thursdays at my veterinary technician job and nail salon. Occasionally I will have to go to the salon other days. I try to do cardio first thing, eat, get Izabella breakfast, check e-mail, eat, do housework, get husband ready for work, eat, train, put Izabella down for nap, try to get caught up on whatever needs to be done or do cardio. I try to train women in between or when Izabella is napping. I train them at my house. I have some days when I’m doing cardio at 11:00pm and then go to bed. I live a crazy life and believe that if you want something hard enough, you will find time to achieve your goals.

3. How do you motivate yourself to get and stay so fit?

I set goals and do whatever possible to achieve them. I see the results I get when I work hard.

4. What forms of exercise do you find to be the most effective?

Cardio, cardio and cardio!

5. What is your normal eating plan like? Do you have any type of “special” diet for getting leaner?

If you want to get lean eat a lot of protein throughout the day. I eat every 2-3 hours. I start my day w/ cream of rice and egg whites… a shake before lunch… then a salad with tuna or fresh grilled plain chicken breast and spray dressing and an apple… for dinner a protein (meat) and green vegetables… and a shake before bed.

6. Do you use any supplements? If so, which do you recommend?

I use glutamine 2 times a day and believe everyone that weight trains should. I also take a daily multivitamin.

7. Are there any other products or techniques you recommend for looking great?

Set your goals and achieve them. I cook everything plain and on the George Foreman grill. I drink 1-2 gallons of water a day. I really watch my sugar and sodium intake. I prepare my food for the entire day in the morning. This way I have my food with me at all times, no matter where I am or what I’m doing.

8. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

I am currently training for the Arnold Amateur show. My goal is to place top 5. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at Bearclaw@seidata.com or at Heather-Bear.com. I recommend checking out GetPhatWithJen.com if you are wanting a motivational weekend with a bunch of women who all have the same interests. I also have contacts I recommend for competition suits and shoes. Let me know if you are interested.
